The art of HOW TO EAT.

Food combining (FC) takes into account the digestion of food. Different foods require specific enzymes to be broken down and these enzymes work at specific pH levels in our gut. Therefore the body cannot properly digest different groups of foods with different pH levels. Attempting to do so slows metabolism and causes digestive backup and constipation.

Food Transit time: Different foods have different digestion times. Therefore, we need to be mindful of the time it takes to digest certain foods as not to cause digestive backup. For example, it will always take meats and proteins longer to digest than leafy vegetables. Combing the two can causes indigestion.

*Special note on fruits: Eating fruits with other foods causes them to hang out in your gut too long. The sugar then ferments which can then lead to digestive issues. Fruit should be eaten first thing in the morning and it should not follow other meals.

Bottom line: The harder the body has to work to digest foods, the more causes of symptoms such as gas, bloating, heart burn, acid reflux, sugar cravings and constipation.
