RitUAL FOR ALTaR RESTING

First: Take down your altar — yes, even the sacred things.

Return offerings to the earth or to running water.

Second: cleanse your entire space

Wipe each surface clean with reverence. Sweep from back to front, moving the old energy toward the door. Place salt water at your entrance way.

Third: Let new air flow

Open your windows, and let the wind move through like breath through the body.

Fourth: Speak with intent

As the air shifts, light a bit of sage, rosemary, or copal and speak aloud:

“I cleanse this space of all that is heavy.
I purify this home with peace, clarity, and renewal.”

Then leave your altar bare for a few days — no candles, no photos, no offerings, no electronic devices near. Let the room rest in silence, like fertile soil waiting for the first seed.

Before the ancestors arrive, we must first make room for them.
